Unlocking the Power of Neuroplasticity Through Yoga: Transform Your Brain, Transform Your Life

The brain is a powerful organ that has the ability to change and adapt to different physical, mental, emotional and spiritual states of being. Neuroplasticity in simple terms refers to the brains ability to not be static, but in fact can reorganize itself to form new neural pathways thus strengthening existing ones. The brain’s health can be ongoing with the practice of yoga, which cultivates wellness and enhances the Neuroplasticity within the brain. The brain is constantly rewiring itself in response to experiences, thoughts and behaviors.

How does this relate to yoga?

Yoga acts as a catalyst for Neuroplasticity through a combination of mindfulness techniques, movement techniques and breath work. When our bodies and brain are nourished, our soul is nourished, which stimulates the potential for growth, creativity and longevity.

  • Mindfulness: Mindfulness practices such as breathing and focusing on being present in mind/body/soul increases the grey matter in the brain, which is responsible for muscle control and sensory perception.

  • Consistency is Key: Just like muscles, the brain needs repetition and consistence for Neuroplasticity to take root. Moving, breathing, meditating and walking in nature help to facilitate a consistent yoga practice. Practicing on and off your mat three times a week is a very good schedule. What I mean by off your mat, is being conscious of your breath, your presence and your emotional triggers (responding or reacting to people and situations). I always put walking in nature as part of a strong Yoga practice.

Benefits of Neuroplasticity Through Yoga

*Improves memory and focus

*Emotional Regulation

*Stress Reduction

*Increased Mental Clarity

*Neurogenesis (yoga has been linked to the growth of new brain cells)

A New Path for a Better Brain

Yoga gives you an opportunity to rewire the brain, improve cognitive function, and nurture emotional resilience. Starting small is key. Being curious where the practice of yoga takes you is healing, creative and creates connectivity inside and out. (Self worth and Community)
